Knit Tea Cozy from Craftown

Knit tea cozy is made in two sections and requires about 2 ounces of synthetic yarn in knitting worsted weight and small amounts of two contrasting colors. Use number 4 and 5 knitting needles and crochet hook size F.

Abbreviations:
k (knit), st (stitch), p (purl), tog (together), Inc (increase), 0 (yarn Over), dec (decrease)

Using size 4 needles, cast on 36 sts, work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for one inch.

Change to size 5 needles — Inc. Row:
* K 1, p 1, inc in next k st, p 1, repeat from * across,(45 sts).

Work in pattern as follows:

Pattern—Row 1: * K 1, p 1, repeat from * across, ending k 1.in ribbing of k l, p 1.

Row 2 and all even rows: K across.

Row 3: K 1,* p1, kin back of next st repeat from * across.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until there are 10 rows of pattern (5 rows of bumps).

Change to contrasting color and work 6 more rows in pattern, change to second contrasting color and work 2 rows, change to first contrasting color and work 6 rows.

Now change to main color and work 9 rows of pattern.

Dec Row: * K 1, p 1, k 1, p 2 tog, repeat from * across. Work 4 rows in ribbing of k l, p 1.

Next row: To make eyelets for drawstring, * k 1, p 1, 0, k 2 tog, repeat from * across.

Work 4 more rows in rib pattern. Work 9 rows in stockinette st (k 1 row p 1 row). Bind off.

Make second side in same fashion. Sew two sections together leaving opening on sides where contrasting color sections meet. Openings are for spout and handle.

To Make Tie: With two strands of yarn in main color crochet a chain 25 inches long. Thread through holes in 5th row of top ribbing.

Make two pom-poms by winding yarn around a 1" card. Tie to ends of chain.
